Italy
Direction, Stage design, Performance

Born in Treviso, Silvia Costa studied visual arts and theatre at Venice's IUAV University. In 2006 she played the lead role in Hey Girl! produced by the Societas Raffaello Sanzio theatre company founded by Romeo Castellucci. Until 2019, she takes part in most of the director's shows as an actress and artistic collaborator.

She pursues her own artistic projects, and since 2007 has been developing a visual and poetic theatre informed by a deep reflection on images, their meaning and their power over spectators. As author, director, performer and set designer, Silvia Costa is a protean artist who uses these different aesthetic fields to further her theatrical approach. Her work is regularly presented at major Italian and international festivals. In 2016, she presented Poil de Carotte, adapted from the novel by Jules Renard at the Théâtre des Amandiers, and in 2018 Dans le pays d'hiver, adapted from Dialogues avec Leuco by Cesare Pavese at the MC93 in Bobigny. Her work is also developing elsewhere in Europe, including at the Landestheater in Bregenz in 2019 with Wry smile Dry sob inspired by Beckett's play Comédie, at the Residenztheatre in Munich with Mémoire de fille based on a book by Annie Ernaux, and at De Singel with La femme au Marteau. She was an associate artist of the Théâtre dell'Arte at the Milan Triennale from 2017 to 2019 and of the Centre Dramatique National d'Angers in 2019. Since 2020, she has been a member of the Comédie de Valence multidisciplinary ensemble.
