Artonov 2020

The theme of this 6th edition is "what the day owes to the night." The artists of this edition seize the light and enchant it to reveal to us a world of multiple transparencies. However, the shadow is never far away, nor is the reflection. In fact, in Ancient Greek, they often refer to the same word: "skia." Shadow and reflection, therefore. Projection of form, without substance and without contours, depending on multiple living variables to exist: movement, the source of light, or the object itself. The shadow is both darkness, hell, the invisible world, and the depth coveted by the mystic. It is uncertain and ever-changing. Animation and cinema play with it. And so do we. If the desire for shadow haunts us, it is also because it allows the breakthrough and irruption of light. This year, we also opt for more contemporary architectural locations such as See U in Ixelles, in order to defend urban projects that embody dimensions and values similar to those of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, styles that continue to be the guiding thread of the festival.
