Spat Sonore

France

Spat'Sonore is a collective of musicians founded in 2003 by Nicolas Chedmail around the creation of a specific musical repertoire for spat', a family of instruments that he has been building and designing since 2001. Many original pieces have been written by contemporary music composers (Gérard Pesson, Elsa Biston, Karl Naegelen, Frédéric Pattar...). Since 2018, Spat'sonore has been touring in France and Europe the creation of Des Madeleines dans la Galaxie with Elsa Birgé, which mixes songs and improvisations. Climbing plants in copper tubes topped with horns form a sound igloo in which the listener comes to settle. Then the musicians-machinists post themselves at the piston brains of their spat'. The structure rears up and wobbles, suspended from the hangers. The spat' are sprawling acoustic acousmoniums, huge mouth organs, amplifiers-spatializers-filters of sounds produced by the mouth, a string or a membrane. The spat' are also horns, tubas, saxophones, harmonicas, banjos and voices.
