Ecole fondamentale n° 13

Built in two phases, the vast Linthout school complex is one of the most striking creations by Henri Jacobs (1864-1935), an Art Nouveau architect from Schaerbeek. The two entrance pavilions were built between 1907 and 1913, along with the nursery and the boys' primary sections; the girls' primary section and the gymnasium shared by both schools were built between 1913 and 1922.

The whole complex was conceived as a Gesamtkunstwerk or a total work of art, with the architect designing every detail of the decor and the fittings, as well as incorporating monumental artworks by Maurice Langaskens and Privat Livemont to arouse children's interest in art and aesthetics from an early age.

More than a century after its completion, the complex continues to be used as a school.
